Background:(Highlight to read) Magnifi Gramarye was an amazing magician who took on three students: Zak, Valant and Thalassa, making up Troupe Gramarye. Only one of the three, Magnifi’s daughter Thalassa was actually a Gramarye who had the genetic Gramarye talent. When wearing her bracelets, Thalassa could find anyone’s tell.
Troupe Gramarye became a famous traveling group with its very own kid’s show. On the road Thalassa met a fellow magician. She fell in love and got married. For a while, she settled down and left Troupe Gramarye. In that time she had a son and named him Apollo. Soon afterward, she got bored. She gave her son one of her bracelets before leaving.
Thalassa rejoined Troupe Gramarye and a few years later married her co-star Zak. They had a daughter named Trucy. When Trucy was young, Thalassa was shot during practice and reportedly died. Troupe Gramarye’s popularity waned. Thalassa was not, however, dead. Blind and memory-less, she wandered around Borginia as Lamiroir, eventually becoming a famous singer.
Apollo, meanwhile, spent only a year with his father, who really did die in a stunt gone wrong on stage.
He was adopted by the Justices, an English professor and a pediatrician. They decided early on that it would be unhealthy for a young boy to know that his real parents had been famous, and so they didn’t tell him.
The Justices were an old couple with an adult child whom they rarely saw. They adopted Apollo and three other children who were his little siblings. Apollo’s adoptive parents were well-meaning and supportive, with more parenting books than common sense. Apollo went to an expensive prep school and worked hard. He got good grades. He played soccer. His parents were very proud.
When he was 12, Apollo was a huge fan of The Steel Samurai, along with the majority of his age group. He was a bigger fan than average, and when the shows main villain was murdered and the star of the show was accused, Apollo obsessively watched the media coverage of the trial.
When he was 13, Apollo grew out of the Steel Samurai but gained a new obsession- the law. He read all the past case files of the lawyer who had defended his hero eagerly, and followed that lawyer’s career for a short time. Eventually, he started to study the law more generally and decided to become a lawyer himself.
While Apollo was in college, Magnifi Gramarye asked both his remaining students to kill him. Both refused, and Magnifi shot himself. Zak, however, was arrested. He originally hired Kristoph Gavin, but decided to hire Phoenix Wright instead. Kristoph had already had a piece of evidence forged and planned the death of the nine year old forger, Vera Misham. Kristoph, mad at the rejection, secretly gave Phoenix the forged evidence and told his younger brother Klavier, the case’s prosecutor, about the evidence. Phoenix used the evidence and was disbarred. Zak was convicted but disappeared.
Phoenix went to work at the Borscht Bowl as pianist/undefeated poker player. Seven years later, Zak returned to speak with Phoenix, and Phoenix realized Apollo was Thalassa’s son. Zak and Phoenix played poker. Zak had planned to set Phoenix up to cheat, but his plan failed and he knocked his partner, the dealer, unconscious. Phoenix left to call the police, and in that time Kristoph killed Zak. The police arrested Phoenix, and he requested Apollo defend him, which was Apollo’s first case. During the trial, Phoenix told Apollo, who had never known about his Gramarye talent, to look for people’s tells. Using his skill, Apollo won the case and got the killer convicted. The killer who also happened to be his boss.
With only one case under his belt, Apollo went on a job search. He hadn’t found anything when he got a call from Phoenix Wright, which seemed like a desperate plea for help and turned out to be a job offer. After a severe guilt trip, Apollo agreed. Phoenix had been in a car accident and asked Apollo to investigate and help the man waiting at Phoenix’s office. That client wanted him to find a missing noodle stand. Phoenix’s adopted daughter also hired him to find her missing panties, and Apollo agreed.
Across the street from the scene of Phoenix’s accident, Apollo found a murder scene, and the noodle stand. The murder was witnessed by the man who stole Trucy’s panties. Apollo was hired to defend the man accused of the murder, Wocky Kitaki, who had actually planned to kill the victim because that’s what working for Phoenix was like. Nevertheless, Apollo won his case against Klavier Gavin.
Klavier happened to be a rock star as well as prosecutor and invited Apollo to a concert. Klavier had invited Lamiroir and her pianist Machi Tobaye to play with him. During the concert, Lamiroir’s bodyguard, who was also an undercover investigator for the Borginian government looking into smuggled cocoons, was killed. Daryan Crescend had convinced Machi to smuggle the cocoons. The investigator found out, and Daryan killed him. Apollo won again, but only just.
This close win gave Phoenix an excuse to have a change he proposed, a change to the jury system, tested. The test involved a case were the defendant was almost certainly guilty, and Apollo was going to defend them. At the last minute, the case changed to the murder of Drew Misham by his daughter Vera. Drew had been poisoned, and during the trial Vera was almost killed by the same because of the plans set up by Kristoph Gavin seven years earlier. Apollo, with the help of Phoenix and the camera button on his hat, got Kristoph convicted of all his crimes and proved Phoenix innocent.
Personality:Apollo is actually pretty normal. His hair is weird and he sort of has a super power, but that doesn't change the fact that he is the only sane person in Phoenix Wright. His flaws aren't weird obsessions or the inclination for murder, but reasonable ones that many people have.

For example, Apollo is an easy target for teasing because he gets defensive much too quickly. He is also easily flustered, which often leave him stuttering in shock. In fact, Apollo reacts strongly to most things. When something is strange, it sends him reeling. When something scares him at all, he stammers and tries to escape. Any pressure at all turns him into a blubbering mess. His inherent sense of embarrassment means that it doesn't take much to convince him to do something, no matter how stupid. He'll fight for a little while, but give in if pressed even a little. This means that he can be forced to run around town looking for a noodle stand because a little girl wanted him to.

Even though Apollo gives in easily when it comes to himself, for his client he never does. It's not even really about believing in his client, it's about finding the truth. He's willing to get his boss convicted for murder, or his own client for smuggling so long as he finds out the truth. When he is wearing his bracelet, he can tell when people are lying at any time. Without it, he would need to focus completely and then he'd only be able to tell sometimes.

He won't be able to do it at all until he remembers, which is odd. Despite having a bracelet that tightened around his wrist whenever someone lied, he never noticed until Trucy pointed it out. Apollo has an overly specific sense of normal, clearly marking him as a lawyer. It doesn't embarrass him when people point out that he has stupid hair, unlike everything else. He defends it to himself instead, thinking that it's gelled- totally normal and therefore not something to be embarrassed about.

He also spends the time and money each morning to gel his hair into antennae. Appearances clearly matter to him, for better or for worse.
